The natural tooth colour is not flashy white. The inner layer of the tooth, Dentine, is brownish yellow in colour, and is covered by the outer translucent layer of Enamel. This makes the tooth appear to be slightly yellowish. With aging, the Enamel will gradually wear down and become thinner, which makes the yellowish colour more and more obvious. People who have a smoking habit, frequently intake tea or coffee, or do not have adequate oral hygiene maintenance may experience staining, which can cause the tooth to become more yellowish.
During the In-Office Tooth Whitening procedure, a high concentration of whitening gel is used, it is required to be properly operated by a registered Dentist to avoid any harm to the gum and risks of swallowing the whitening gel. For Home Tooth Whitening kits, it is advised to follow the instructions given by the Dentist and use them carefully at home.
The effect of the Tooth Whitening Treatment will last for a period of time that is affected by habits of eating, drinking and toothbrushing. It is advised to have regular or repeated Tooth Whitening Treatments in order to maintain the effect.
After Tooth Whitening Treatment, it is normal to experience tooth sensitivity for a short period of time. You can brush your teeth with desensitizing toothpaste and avoid foods that are too hot, cold, sweet, or sour, which may cause tooth sensitivity. The symptoms of sensitivity will usually subside with time.
After Tooth Whitening Treatment, try to avoid food that can easily stain (e.g. coffee, tea, coke, red wine, curry, soya sauce etc) and also avoid smoking. These will make the teeth easily stained again, and even worse than before the Tooth Whitening Treatment.
Porcelain Veneers:are thin layers of porcelain that are attached to the surface of the tooth to mask away tooth shape and colour defects. The dentist will grind away small amounts of the tooth surface, then take a dental impression or intraoral scan of the tooth as to tailor the desired shape, colour and size of the veneers for the tooth. After the veneer is made, the patient will have a mock-up trial, and if everything is correct, the dentist will use dental adhesives to permanently attach the veneer onto tooth surface.
Composite Build-up:is the application of tooth-coloured composite resin to repair tooth damage caused by caries or tooth wear that reshapes them into a more desirable appearance. This can also help to conceal minor dental aesthetics issues, such as tooth wear or abnormal tooth shape. It is a simple and economical cosmetic dental procedure.
Porcelain Veneer:Try to avoid hard food, such as nuts, ice, crab shell or bones etc. This will make the veneer chipped or cracked. It is not easy to repair Porcelain veneer, the only way to do is to replace a new one.
Composite Build-up:Similarly to the Porcelain Veneer, try to avoid hard food, as well as avoid food that will stain, because the Composite resin will discolour with time.
